When the sun comes out of the ocean,
When a lamp lights up a dark room all of a sudden,
When the fire dances about in a night sullen:
Then, a shade of Your glance i may have begotten.
When the horizon creaked in pristine glory,
When the rainbow lit up the sky so cloudy,
When the crescent adorned the sky smartly:
Then, i remembered Your smile gladly.
The sun, the star, the moon, the sky :
Them i use in an attempt to describe
Your wonders so profound, my shiny-armoured Knight! :)
But oh! As the Lord Yourself, all definitions You defy.
Bless these eyes of mine to forever be able to see You,
Bless me that i forever sing Your glories anew:
i am unto You surrendered: Keep me with You-
Forever to be able to love and to serve You!

"Then, a shade of Your glance i may have begotten." = tirukkaNDEn pon mEni kaNDEn!!! Just like pEyAzhvAr, you sighted Him in His full glory, yet out of modesty you say "a shade of Your glance".
And about "my shiny-armoured Knight", this is the first time I am hearing a ma^ngaLAshAsanam to Kalki avatAram.

ReplyDeletei have read of these verses long time ago, now that i recall, but i never had much knowledge of them. It is amazing unto me how you compared the lines. It sends a chill down my spine, as i think of the grace He has bestowed upon me. And, it increases my desire multifold to learn the Nalayira Divya Prabandham in full relish of the poetry, by His grace. (btw, ur pandityam is great, you seem to be able to quote so easily)

It is not Mangalashasanam, in fact, it is nothing.
And, i never realized i was singing of Kalki.
My reference had been merely to the brave Knight who would be the saviour of a certain damsel in distress, in those classic fairy tales in English. :)
There was a time when i wondered- "O Krishna, what do i write about You that no one has already said?"
Then, i told Him i would write just what i feel.
Today, thanks to your comment, He blessed this ignorant soul with the knowledge that i do not need to write something new for Him, i just need to write unto Him what He reveals to this enstranged heart.

ReplyDeleteYou are indeed a major recipient of Azhvars' grace (particularly Andal Nachiar's), as is evident from your skill in conveying bhakti through beautiful metrical verses and nAyaki bhAvam. What I feel is, the comparison with first three Azhvars is natural, and is no coincidence that your vision of Sriman Narayana matches with their experience on that very dark evening in Tirukkovalur (the first Azhvar lights a massive external lamp, the second Azhvar lights a lamp in his heart, and the third Azhvar sees Him finally and sings "thirukkaNDEn").
I have no great pANDityam, I owe it all to great scholars like Sri U. Ve. Velukkudi Krishnan, Sri Sri Krishna Premi, Sri Mukkur Lakshminarasimhachariar and others whose pravachanams I regularly listen to. Also, Sri PBA Swami and Sri Puttur Swami who graced me by giving me the opportunity to read their works.
