This blog is dedicated to my dearest Krishna...mostly poetry, sometimes through the words of a Gopi, and sometimes, just my own musings...

O Blessed Water!

O The water of the blessed river:
Tell me about my dear lover!
How the sweetness of His touch sanctified You,
And gave you life anew!

Tell me how you His lotus feet cleansed,
And, with that sweet water yourself cleansed!
Tell me how your blessed water entered His mouth-
And felt the nectar that i have sought!

Tell me how He held you in His cupped palm,
Tell me about His infinite charm;
Tell me what it was like to touch His curly locks-
And, thus free yourself from all the chains with double locks.

Tell me about His endless eyes on which you were splashed,
Tell me about His luscious lips that You so luckily touched.
Tell me about that cloud-complexioned boy,
Who played with you like you were His toy.

When you washed the serene radiance of His face:
Was it not like You were washing the sun's rays?
Tell me, when you touched Him in every place:
Weren't you playing with the World's solace?

They say in your waters are lost the impure-
For you are among the most pure-
But, when the One who made you pure-  the Purest of the Pure
Straddled in you, wasn't He making your impure pure?

Oh! You served Him so wonderfully,
What a day when the Lord played in your water joyfully.
Not capable of serving Him, my state is sorry:
May He bless me to serve Him beautifully!

  1. Beautiful poetry! :)

    My favorite parts:
And, thus free yourself from all the chains with double locks.

    and

When you washed the serene radiance of His face:
Was it not like You were washing the sun's rays?

Absolutely brilliant and very heart-felt... left me in awe of all the rivers and lakes that Krishna touched.. left me wishing I could be so lucky!

  2. @Drainpiper: Am glad you liked it. As you so wonderfully put it once, you liked it, so maybe Krishna did too! :)

i know...i know...i was thinking the same thing.
actually, my sis was watching the 'little Krishna' series on tv, and there was this story about Shyama Kund (Radha tells Him He must bathe in all the holy rivers to atone for the sin of killing a bull (demon), so He just invites all the holy rivers to his pond)
And, they showed Him stepping into the pond with His beautiful feet, and that's when i ended up thinking that the water must have been rejoicing.

  3. Yeaaaa! I've seen that episode! I LOVE Little Krishna! It's the most amazing show ever! One of my favourite leelas is the one where Krishna dances on Kaliya's hoods. I just love watching that!

Did you mean 'Little KRISHNA' the tv series?
i took the literal meaning, and, that quite fits too! :)))
One thing i do love about Little Krishna is He is so cute in the series.
i was so down that day, apparently faltering in my devotion, and other problems and all, and that one little episode lifted me up, totally.
It's amazing, how wonderful He is.
And, more so, how just talking about Him can leave you feeling so nice.
btw, i haven't watched the Kaliya episode. But, another favourite of mine is the one in which He dresses up as a tax collector, and the Gopis, in turn, dress Him, well, as a Gopi.
How i wish He'd swing from a branch, and take me unawares, when am walking. And, i'd pay Him all the taxes in the world. :))

I liked these lines the most...How beautifully you've expressed! It's like reading Bharathi's poems. Beautiful!

  7. @Manivannan Sadasivam: Thankyou so much for your heartfelt comment on this blog.

Bharathi, though, is a class apart.
Comparing my work with his is like comparing a small tributary with the ocean itself. :)

i write, but by the grace of Krishna. He is not just the subject, but the very source of my little poetry.

Let's hope, though, that the impurity of our minds be lost in the purity, and surreal beauty of the river of His thoughts. :))

  8. Eeks! I didn't know you had replied to my comment... I wish there was a way I could get some notifications lol

Anyway, yes, I was referring to the TV show, but the literal meaning works just as well ;)

The Kaliya episode is absolutely fantastic. Oh man, the way He dances on the hoods and how He rids the waters of the poison.. Uff, just amazing!
