This blog is dedicated to my dearest Krishna...mostly poetry, sometimes through the words of a Gopi, and sometimes, just my own musings...

Of Bumbling bees and Lotus Flowers

Surrounded by fragrant flowers and abundant gardens,
Stands tall and majestic the Lord of the mountain!
Oh bees bumbling around the blossoming  flower, pleasuring one another;
Indeed, show me a path to thus surrender!
Dark complexioned like the clouds struck by lightning and thunder,
And His eyes a reddish hue like you O! Lotus flower:
Show me how to surrender unto my Lover!

-A liberal translation from Andal’s Nachiyar Tirumozhi, in which She describes her pining and unrequited love for Kallazhagar (literally, the Beautiful One) of Thirumaliruncholai.

Reaching out

O Parthasarathy!!

Adorned as You are in your shining pearls,
Beauty personified is my Krishna blue-hued!
Charming is Your magnificent stride:
Dazed i am by Your doting smile! ❤️

Lucky are those whose eyes fall upon
This wonderful Lord whom this Universe depends on!
Blessed are those who beget a mere glance
From You who weaves even the whims of chance!

What the Heart Wants.

Oh lord!
Caught in utter duress this heart of mine
Just yearned for one sight of Yours divine:
And when You bestowed on this slave your grace benign;
What more do I need, o lord of mine?

However my sorrow may be profound,
In You it has solace found!
How indebted I am for Your presence!
How grateful to perceive Your eyes so intense!

O Protector of Your devotees!
O KrishnaWhen Your lips smile with such serenity:
What better medicine is there in all eternity!
When Your loving glance thus bores into my heart:
O parthasarathy: all my fears with haste depart!

Calling Out

Far away my heart cries
For the lover in whom the worlds reside!
Oh dear Lord! This sorrow my world overrides,
Would You please call me to your side?

For Your smile so captivating
And Your eyes enchanting!
For Your big arms so reassuring:
Here, my heart lies yearning!

Oh what a fool this girl is
So near yet so far from eternal bliss!
Fallen in a sea of intractable mistakes
I have my heart forsake!

Finding myself in utter free fall,
This slave surrenders to her Lord:
Will not your merciful eyes befall
A hapless who has Your help sought?

The flowers that adorned Your shoulders mighty:
The unerring messengers of Your fragrance earthy;
This slave now holds in her hands blessed,
Even as my heart leaps in joy at Your behest!

The world may call them unworthy
For they now appear variably withered!
But oh! They were on my sweet Sarathy smothered:
Does the damned world know that few are as fortunate and worthy?

The roses that are now half-dead,
Hide the scent of my Lord so unmistakable!
In the yellow flowers that are now black instead,
i feel the force of Your perspiration so recognizable!

In the white flowers that You once adorned with grace:
Wearing them, i rejoice in the warmth of Your embrace!
And o Lord! By the leaves of tulasi betwixt strung,
i taste the dust of Your Holy Feet in my tongue!!

There aren't words to describe Your love,
Or Dearest Krishna! The benovelant boons You bestow!
O Merciful Lord who enchants with Your smile so serene:
Let me please be a lotus for Your beautiful Feet!!
